Waterfall Wednesday - Week 3 - Chapters 12 to 17

Waterfall Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tina's Book ReviewEdgy Inspirational RomanceSupernatural SnarkThe Unread Reader and me.  For the period August 31st to September 28th each week we re-read chapters from Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergren and answer five questions.  To find out more on this awesome event visit Tina's Books Reviews

1. In Siena, on her way to the ball at Palazzo Pubblico, Gabi likened her experience to being on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, the goal being "to see and be seen." If you were a peasant, watching from the crowd, what would you be thinking as this procession passed by?

I would think it was amazing!  I would be loving all the gorgeous gowns and probably daydreaming one day I will get to attend such an event with a handsome knight on my side!

2. Though quite nervous about dancing at the ball, Gabi discovers a strange feeling of connection to the time, the people, and the society through the unified beauty of the dance. Have you ever been in a position where you felt out of your element, but, in one, pinpointed moment, became a part of or connected to something bigger than your fear?

Recently when my home state was 90% under water.  We all banned together as a community and tried to help those who needed it.

3. The kiss. Oh, the kiss. When Marcello finally kisses Gabi, he believes the experience to be proof that they are meant to be together. What did you think about his assumption? Were you surprised at Gabi's reaction to it? Have you ever experienced a kiss that seemed to be prophetic in a similar (or opposite!) way?

I thought the fact that Marcello could tell he true feelings from the heart for Gabi after that kiss was sweet.  It made my swoon.  I think today we are a bit skeptical about instant love but I do believe it does exist.   When I saw my husband for the first time I knew he was meant for.  I wouldn't say I knew I was in love but rather that there was a special connection that I hadn't ever experienced before.

4. Many go through their teen years with a subdued sense of immortality. Do you think Gabi has a sense of this teen feeling? And did you think Gabi's converse observation, "Sometimes death came hunting and there was no way to cut it off at the pass." was informed more by the experience of losing her father, her self-admitted closet hypochondria, or the forced maturation of being transported to a different time? How does this observation show Gabi's growth as a character?

I think Gabi did until her father past away.  When you lose somebody your love you realise how precious every moment is.  For me this showed Gabi was a believable character and showed a lot of depth to her character.

5. In the span of a few moments, Gabi goes from sword-wielding teen beauty to man-killing warrior. Did you think her realization of the finality of death -- and her justification for its necessity -- was realistic? And, in her slippers, could you have done the same?

Yes.  Gabi is acting with her instinct by protecting the people she cares for.  I would do the same in her shoes.

I agree that today I think we are more skeptical about love in general, product of the times probably. I most likely would have been in instant love right and left in medieval times when I was supposed to be married as a teenager and live until I was 40. Gotta get movin! Awesome answers Nic:)

Great answers to this week's questions! It's nice to know that there are still people who believe that instant love is possible. I grew up believing it, but something happened along the way and I stopped believing. I hope that I can, one day, have reason to hope and believe again:)

Great post! Look forward to next week's.

Wonderful questions and answers! I'd be dying over those gorgeous gowns too. I agree that while it isn't necessarily 'instant love' there can be an instant connections. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for including a link to my giveaway! :D

I like your answers a lot this week. I agree, the death of Gabi's father really did give her a perspective that other teens might not have. And, you know, insta-love detractor that I am, I knew as soon as I saw my fiance that there was something there. :)

90%...holy cow! What caused the area to be under that much water?

Great answers Nic!

Awwwww.... I'm melting over the special connection you felt with your hubby. I can't wait for the day I feel that. Hopefully soon. :)

90% under water. GAH! I don't think I realized it was that much, though I remember hearing about it. It's so wonderful knowing that people were eager to help others out in their time of need. Very inspirational.

I think most people are skeptical about instant love. I do believe in instant connection and as you said knowing someone is going to be special in your life but I'm sure about knowing you Love someone off of one kiss.

Hopefully though someone will prove me wrong someday...as skeptical as I am I'm still a hopeful person.

I think today we are totally more skeptical about love. I know I am, for sure! I do think there are people I connect with more than others, but I have yet to discover any kind of soul mate thing. I love my Hubby, so he'll do. ;D

I too think that in today's society we are skeptical of love at first sight. Also I think that we are skeptical when someone in their teens think that they are in love. That is a sad thing. My daughter married at 18. She and her husband knew they wanted to marry when they were 16.

Oh, I like your answer for number four. I think the death of her father has probably had a great effect on Gabi as well.

Rebecca (RivkaBelle) said...

My dad knew the first time he ever saw Mum that he'd marry her. A year to the day later, he did...they celebrated their 27th anniversary in August :o) So yeah, I definitely believe in "the fairytale" of first glance knowing :o) Love your story!

What IS it about people? Why does it take a crisis to draw us together (like a flood)? I think that's one of the most amazing things Gabi came to realize...how we are all in need of community, whether we realize it or not.

Thanks for your great answers, Nic! I appreciate you!

That kiss between Gabi and Marcello....WOW.

Great answers Nic! I swooned at that kiss too! Nothing like the build up to that one!!

The kiss made me swoon and feel so much love!

That kiss was definitely swoon-worthy!

Great answers!

I thought their kiss was sweet too. In Marco's case, it works because he's a medieval guy but if he had been transported to today's time and declared something like that, I agree that it would have made anybody skeptical.
