Favourite Literary Couples

Alexa at Not Enough Bookshelves is doing a Christmas Countdown of her favourite couples.  Some of my favourites have already been featured - Lennie and Joe from The Sky is Everywhere and Sam and Grace from Shiver.  Both those couples have a beautiful soulmate kind of connection.

For Review (Netgalley)

The Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder - I love this cover, it just grabs your attention.  Debut author of 2011.  I heard this is a fun book that never has a dull moment.

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand - This is Cynthia Hand debut YA novel.  It is the first book in a trilogy about Angels.  I have a couple of friends read this already and love it especially the character Tucker.  Can't wait to get started!

I didn't buy anything because I am holding off going book shopping until Tuesday when LAST SACRIFICE by Richelle Mead is released.  I can't believe it is the last book in the series.  I wonder how it will all end.

My Review:-

Favourite Quote: 'I look into his sorrowless eyes and a door in my heart blows open.  And when we kiss, I see that on the other side of that door is the sky.'

This review is not going to be like normal because The Sky Is Everywhere is so STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL it hard to get the words out.  So I thought I use some pictures to help express my thoughts.

The Sky Is Everywhere made my heart ache.  The above picture pretty much sums up Lennie's life and also the way it made me feel while reading it.   My emotions were all caught up in this story thanks to Jandy Nelson utterly gorgeous writing.  All the poems and notes scattered throughout this book really captured the pain Lenny was feeling.  But there were also funny and happier moments that warmed my heart as well.

Lennie, I could really empathise with her and feel her pain as she looked for a way to deal with it.  I didn't always like her choices but completely understood them and it was wonderful to watch her grow and work towards happiness.   This story also has interesting secondary characters that are just as well crafted.  You could feel Toby, Gran and Big's pain as you watched each of them deal with their grief differently and Sarah's confusion and hurt as Lennie pushes her away. 

The romance in this book is that epic, forever, two souls connecting, kind of love.  It does happen somewhat fast but it works because of the writing that really expresses how Lennie feels when she is with Joe.  And also because of Joe ('quel major dork', 'bat bat bat' - for those of you have read the book it will make sense).  He has such a gorgeous soul.  And well his passion for music makes it hard not to fall for him.  He has found a place with my other literary crushes.

I really wished I could have written some more detail and depth to this review to express how I felt but I am hoping these pictures will get across the words I can't.  Overall, this book is a story about love, that I fell in love with.

Some interesting info:  The UK edition which I have has colour photographs inside of the notes/poems that Lennie wrote.  It also has blue ink.  Very pretty!

Beatle Meets Destiny

My Review:-

Favourite Quote: 'You know what they say about mistakes though,' she said, all breathy and half-lipsy.  'It's the only way you ever learn anything.'  And she leant forward and kissed him.  Right there, in the middle of the bar.  Right there, in the middle of his lips.

This book marches to it's own beat! Beatle Meets Destiny is a little bit quirky, completely original but absolutely brilliant.

Right from the start this book was was a lot of fun.  In the first chapter we learn Beatle has a twin who was born on a different day in a different year (I know what you are thinking it makes no sense but trust me it does).  This book made me laugh so hard I am glad that I wasn't reading it in public. 

Not only do you laugh but you get caught up in the emotional mess of Beatle and Destiny's lives.  Making you want to savour every word but at the same time rush to the end to know that everything is going to work out okay.

Beatle, I didn't expect to love him as much as I did.  I mean the guy has a girlfriend (who is super nice) and he is kissing another girl.  But Beatle was a little bit different in a good way (he had this strange quirk about Friday 13th), he is witty and of course handsome.  And the whole kissing another girl thing well I completely understood why Beatle did it.  

Destiny, is the artistic type who is up for anything kind of girl (she applied for a stalker position!).  She also is a little bit quirky in her own way (she writes star signs for a local magazine and based on  her large and crazy family).  They are both really hard to describe but are impossible not to love.  

And the secondary character they were just as well developed and as interesting.  I especially liked Beatle sister,  Winsome with her snarky attitude.  I am hoping William's writes a book about her.

There were also some funny conversations that brought back lots of memories for me that Destiny had with her best friends about signs in any given situation.  'If I see a yellow car in the next five minutes that means Josh likes me'.  Also listing all the reason why he possibly didn't call 'I know what happened,' Mathilde said, clicking her fingers again.  'He's had a terrible accident and can't call because he's broken his hands'.  I couldn't help but laugh because when I was a teenager, my friends and I would have the exact same conversation.  So I do think Williams has captures teen life perfectly.

Overall this is an outstanding book that everybody needs to read!

Cover info: The red cover is the Hardcover US edition.  I like it but I prefer the above paperback copy more because I think it appeals to guys as well.  Just like this story.

What do you do beside reading/reviewing as a hobby?

Well working full time and going to college plus my addiction to books doesn't allow for much else.  And when I do have free times it normal spent with family or friends or feeding the before mentioned book addiction.

Why? I love books from a male point of view.  I thinking being able to see the future would be scary so I think it might be a bit of pulse pounding reading for me.  Early reviews have said it is 'dark, funny and unpredictibale'.  And the cover I love it!
