Mini Reviews #4

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers I thought this would not be my type of read.  It is historical christian fiction (not a huge fan of either) about the life of a woman who was sold as a child into prostitution and then later about the man who feel in love with  her.  This was just a beautiful and breathtaking read.  Oh boy did it my make my heart hurt.  I cried pretty much the whole way through this story.  Sarah (also know as Angel) is a character you become very quickly emotionally invested in and Michael is pretty much the perfect man.  I don't think you will find a character more forgiving and loving then him.   Overall,  this book deals with some intense issues but is worth the emotional journey it takes you on.  Rating: 4/5.

Sweethearts by Sara Zarr - Such a gorgeous story.  It was real, honest and a little heartbreaking.  Again some tears.  Zarr's writing is seamless. So simple yet powerful.  The characters Jenna and Cameron are well rounded and fully alive.  You really can empathise with them.  And the plot is realistic.  Overall a brilliant story.  Rating: 4.5/5

The Ex Games by Jennifer EcholsWhat a fun read. It has everything you need in a good romantic comedy escape.   Likeable characters, plenty of laugh out loud moments and some steamy kisses.  The kind of book you read in one sitting and grin the whole way through.   Highly recommend this book if you looking for an light and entertaining escape.  Rating: 3/5.

Looks like you strayed out of your comfort zone on that first one and it was worth it! Love it when that happens:) The Ex Games sounds really cute, sometimes the light, funny reads are just what I want:)

Cool reviews
I wanna check out Ex games and Redeeming Love (I think I had heard of it before and didn't think it was for me either).

I read sweethearts a while back and I think it's my least favorite of Sarah Zarr's books but it was still a great read.

Okay, I'm not a fan of historical and Christian fiction either, but I am looking for a good cry book right now - you just put redeeming on my list!

Thanks, Nic!

Your description of that first book alone is making me cry. I can imagine the story is just as emotional.

I had to read Redeeming Love in the 10th grade as part of my Bible class curriculum (I attended a Christian private school) and I really didn't think I'd enjoy it, since I hardly ever like required reading. But honestly? I was very moved by that book. I think I might like to read it again, now that you mention it. I guess my teachers DID know something. <3

I'm glad I read your review for Sweethearts, because that cover would have never grabbed my attention (except for making me a little hungry). So happy to hear you liked The Ex-Games! I feel so burned by Jennifer Echols lately but I loved Going Too Far. Maybe I should read TEG next. Thanks!

I'm hoping to read at least one book by Sara Zarr by this fall since she will be doing a signing in my area. Sweethearts sounds good so maybe I will read it.

I'm not really a fan of the cover of Sweethearts but I kept seeing good reviews popping up for it that I added it to my wishlist. Maybe one day I can actually get around to reading it.

The Ex Games is a good summer read. My personal favourite from the Simon Romantic Comedies is Echols' The Boys Next Door.
