Waiting on Wednesday #11

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week the book I have picked has 2 different covers, so I thought I would share.  Both are gorgeous but I think I prefer the US as the UK reminds me of another book.

Expected Publication date: 21st June, 2011

Violet Willoughby doesn't believe in ghosts. But they believe in her. After spending years participating in her mother's elaborate ruse as a fraudulent medium, Violet is about as skeptical as they come in all matters supernatural. Now that she is being visited by a very persistent ghost, one who suffered a violent death, Violet can no longer ignore her unique ability. She must figure out what this ghost is trying to communicate, and quickly because the killer is still on the loose.

Afraid of ruining her chance to escape her mother's scheming through an advantageous marriage, Violet must keep her ability secret. The only person who can help her is Colin, a friend she's known since childhood, and whom she has grown to love. He understands the true Violet, but helping her on this path means they might never be together. Can Violet find a way to help this ghost without ruining her own chance at a future free of lies?

Why? Because I love Alyxandra Harvey's Drake Chronicles and look forward to more of her witty, fast paced and delicious writing.   And I like a good ghost story!

What are you waiting on?

That sounds like a good book, I'll have to add it to my to-read list.

The UK cover looks kind of like Fallen/Torment, in my opinion. This book sounds really great, I love books with ghosts and this one sounds right up my alley. Great pick!

Haven't read the Drake Chronicles but I am loving the covers on this and the summary has me really interested. I love ghosts and cannot wait to see what this is about. Great pick!

Aww, this sounds really good! I was just waiting for the guy's name to be mentioned ;) I love both covers, but the UK one looks too much like the Fallen series...I'm glad the US one is different and equally pretty :)

I love the sound of this one, and both those covers are stunning! I think I like the US cover best :)

Great pick, Nic!

The UK one is a lot prettier, but it's like a mix of Fallen and Torment by Lauren Kate. =/

This book doesn't appeal to me, though. :( I'm not one for ghosts-- mainly because they frighten the bejeezus out of me, lol!

Ohhh both are really pretty, but I'm with you, I think I'm leaning toward the US cover. The UK one is shockingly similar to Fallen/Torment with that black dress and the birds and everything. I need to read some Alyxandra Harvey, so since this one doesn't come out for a while I'll have to start with the Drake books:)

For a second there, I thought they redid Passion's cover. LOL
Really liking the US cover. Can't wait to read this one. :)

I have this one on my wishlist already but I prefer the UK version even though it reminds me of Lauren Kate's series. I suppose I just have a thing for black and purple rather than purple and white :)

The UK cover reminds me of teh Lauren Kate covers. This one sounds great and I'm looking forward to it too.

I'm dying to read this one too. I think I prefer the UK cover although they're both very pretty.

I'm really looking forward to this one too. I wish they had used that first cover for the third Fallen series cover instead of the one they picked. Doesn't this one look like it matches Lauren Kate's series?

Hi Nic, I take it you are safe from flood waters? I am in Mansfield and am unaffected but my husbands work will be. It has been a difficult few days in Brisbane. Books look great and provide a wonderful form of escape through difficult times.

PS: the UK cover is like Fallen.

Thanks for the all the comments :)

The UK does look a lot like the Fallen series. IMO it would make a better cover than Passion.

@ Alaine - Thanks for your concern. We all safe and dry. Glad to hear you are okay. Stay safe :)
