Mini Reviews #5

Intrinsical by Lani Woodland - Loved it.  Intrinsical is such a beautiful and haunting tale. Woodland's prose is gorgeous - "The pain in my chest returned and I gasped from it's intensity, folding myself in half.  A clammy chill kissed my skin as the light dimmed, a black fog slipping past the corner of my vision."  The plot is full of mystery and is a little creepy.  Then you have fantastic characters including a very swoon worthy crush.  Overall, an amazing start to this series.  Can't wait for Indelible (book #2).  Rating: 4.5/5 stars

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle HodkinUnfortunately, I didn't finish this. Read two thirds and just found myself get frustrated.  I can see why people are loving this but I am having a hard time liking the characters apart from Mara and also all the drama and twists.  I don't get the attraction to Noah and would just like the girl for once to fall for the normal average boy next door.  I just don't think I am in the mood for it rather than anything wrong with the book.   Probably will pick this up again one day when I can read the series from start to finish and get a resolved ending but right now this isn't the type of book I am looking for.  Rating:  2.5/5 stars

Forgotten by Cat Patrick - Really enjoyed this.  I absolutely loved the romance in this book.   It was so sweet and tender and just made me melt and is pretty much the reason I am giving this book such a high rating.  Really, I don't remember much else about the story as I was swooned off my feet.  Forgotten is a relaxing and easy read where the romantic relationship steals the show.   Rating: 4/5 stars

Oh wow, first low review I've seen for Mara, and a DNF! Good. Now I can read the book with this in mind for balance.

So happy to see Intrinsical get such high marks. I haven't heard much about it, but I want to read it.

Hope you have a good weekend, Nic!

Aww too bad you didn't like Mara! I can see why you would have problems with it. But I am so glad you liked Intrinsical and Forgotten! =)

Yay! I love your minis because they are quick yet really helpful.

I'm so surprised by your thoughts on Mara Dyer, but I think it is good to know that it is a book that may not work for everyone.

And I'm so happy you enjoyed Forgotten because I felt the same about it. The romance was so swoon!

Awesome minis, Nic! Thanks

I didn't mind Noah, but I don't get why everyone is going insane over him. Especially with his sketchy past that he never actually answers for.

But yah, Mara Dyer... I dunno, pretty addicting for the first 2/3, but I hate that you don't get any answers at all and the ones you might possibly get make no sense. Frustrating. :/

Huh, I've read mixed reviews about "Mara" and I'm a bit hesitant to start it. I think I'll wait a while for it.

"Intrinsical" sounds great. I never heard about it until now. I'll definitely keep my eye out for it.

Thanks for your helpful mini reviews, Nic!

I loved the romance in Forgotten too! :)

I've read some mixed reviews of Mara Dyer. I like the sound of it, so I might check it out sometime.

Somtimes what you think of a book really depends on if you're in the mood to read it. Although it was a much anticipated book, I'm glad to see your honest rebiew of it. The other two books have me intrigued, espcially the first. Sounds romantic and mysterious...my two favorite aspects in a book. Nice, honest reviews.

Two out of three isn't a bad stat!
I now want to read Intrinsical and Forgotten.

Too bad about Mara Dyer, I know a lot of people were waiting for it but it just never seemed like my kind of book.

:) Great minis

Intrinsical and Forgotten are very high on my wishlist, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed them! And it's also nice to read a different point of view on Mara. I still want to read it, but I can lower my expectations a little.

I think Mara is for a certain type of reader, to be honest...and a certain mood. I'm sad to see you didn't love it, but I hope you'll give it a go at a later date! Noah has some darkness in him that I think you'll love :)

I've got all three on my wishlist and am glad to see that you liked Forgotten and Intrinsical.

I'm surprised you didn't finish Mara though because I've heard great things about it. It's too bad it didn't work out for you. Sometimes I want the main character to fall for the average guy as well.

Mara is a CRAZY freaking book! I read over my review again and it even makes no sense...lol. I loved Noah! I love Noah, but I didn't like the love interest in Saving June that you loved...I can't even remember his name!
