Faves of 2011 so far - The Books

Friday, June 24, 2011

Over at the awesome Inkcrush, Nomes is doing a half yearly list of her favourite books so far.  They are 3 different lists The Books, The Characters and The Scenes & The Random.  The books are any books you have read in 2011 so far regardless of what year they were published.  I will be posting my lists over the following week.  Anybody can participate just make sure to visit Inkcrush.

1. favourite book read so far in 2011 - This Gorgeous Game by Donna Freitas. It the is type of story that gets completely under your skin. Followed closely by Saving June by Hannah Harrington (swooning, road trip, music, fantastic characters) and Divergent by Veronica Roth (unputdownable read with a fantastic premise and Four).

2. most powerful book - This Gorgeous Game by Donna Freitas. Subtle in the way it affects you but is a story I will never forget.

3. brilliantly funny - The Year of Secret Assignments (Finding Cassie Crazy) by Jaclyn Moritary. Just brilliantly entertaining.

4. best ache-y, heart-breaking, tear-jerker read - Stay by Deb Caletti and Sweethearts by Sara Zarr.

5. most beautiful story - Where She Went by Gayle Forman.

 6. delicious rainy day comfort read - Saving June by Hannah Harrington, Psych Major Syndrome by Alicia Thompson and Past Perfect by Leila Sales.

7. adrenalin-fuelled, unputdownable award - Divergent by Veronica Roth.

8. the beautiful prose award - But I Love Him by Amanda Grace and Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler.

9. most atmospheric and vivid setting - Stolen by Lucy Christopher. The outback was like another character.

10. i-so-want-to-go-there award - Die For Me by Amy Plum. Paris ~le sigh~ I want to go there again.

11. most original and imaginative - Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

12. best under-appreciated, hidden gem book - Psych Major Syndrome by Alicia Thompson.

13. i-had-no-idea-i-would-love this-so award - This Gorgeous Game by Donna Freitas and Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergren.

14. most haunting story - Stolen by Lucy Christopher.

15. outside my comfort zone but gosh how i loved it - Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergen. Time travel, historical eek! But I loved it.

16. series that i’m loving - Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. One word Barrons.

17.  most memorable voice award - Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John and Fury by Shirley Marr.

18. completely awesome premise award - Divergent by Veronica Roth.

19.  would make the best movie - Divergent by Veronica Roth and Past Perfect by Leila Sales. One would make a great action and they other would be a perfect chick flick.

20.  want to re-read already - Saving June by Hannah Harrington.

Note: Sorry that I didn't include links.  It took me forever to decide on the books.  Also my spacing is playing up.

Awesome post! I love Sarah Ockler's writing, and Divergent was definitely unputdownable! I'm putting the other titles I haven't read on my TBR list now,

Wow everyone is choosing Divergent. It must be really good.

I really wanted to put Graceling on my list as well. I seriously LOVED IT but I didn't read it this year (not for the first time any way)

I think Divergent might win the adrenalin-fuelled award for me as well (or certainly be in the running anyway!) That one had my heart pounding. I haven't read Past Perfect or Saving June yet but since they made both your and Nomes' lists I will be on the lookout for them for sure!

And aw, I love The Year of Secret Assignments. I've re-read that one countless times :)

BARRONS!

Ah, Nic! I love that I have the same choices as you for some categories, namely MOST BEAUTIFUL with WSW!!!

I love all your selections, and you know I often pick up a lot of recommendations from you. I know they were chosen with a lot of thought and care.

I can't believe I haven't read Psych Major yet, or Divergent, or Five Flavors of Dumb, or Fury! I'm epic fail.

Wonderful choices, my friend.

I've heard a bunch of brilliant things about the Gorgeous Game - and your list seems to confirm them!
I'm seeing lots of Divergent on people list's too - so I guess I'll have to get around to that one asap!

And Graceling! *sigh* How I love that book. :)
