Mini Review Special #2

Honey, Sweetheart, Baby by Deb Caletti - This is a realistic and tender coming of age story.  I love Caletti writing style.  So thoughtful and beautiful. I highlighted so many quotes from this book.  Enjoyed the plot at the beginning but about two thirds of the way in I got bored.  All the characters were interesting and well rounded.  Overall another good book from Caletti but not as strong Stay (which I read recently also by Caletti).   Rating - 3.5 stars

XVI by Julia Karr - Hmmm....what to say about this book.  XVI was an okay read.  The premise is interesting and thought provoking but also a little disturbing.   The writing lack the emotional connection to care about the story unfortunately.  The pacing was okay with only a few moments that dragged at the beginning.   I like the friendship and also the family relationship in this book.  They were the highlight of the story.  Overall, this book had a lot of promise but didn't completely meet.  However I still consider reading the next book in the series just because I really liked the characters.  Rating - 2.5 stars.

The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot - This was such a fun read.  Several times it had me laughing out loud.  Adult chick-lit that is entirely written in emails.  I had to admit it took me a little bit to get into due to the writing style.  I also found it lacked a little depth but I think that is again due to the style of book.  Overall, a light and entertaining read that will bring a smile to your face.   Rating - 3 stars.

I loved Stay! I want to read Honey, Baby, Sweetheart. I agree about The Boy Next Door - fun but not much depth to it.

I have only read XVI and while I like the dystopian storyline, I was not all that invested in the characters either. Love the mini reviews too.

That's a bit disappointing about XVI. I'll probably still read it, the synopsis really piqued my interest. Awesome reviews!

Great mini reviews, Nic! I've actually seen a lot of bad reviews for XVI, so I've been holding off. Perhaps someday soon :)

I love your littlepic for mini reviews-- it's brilliant! XVI had me intrigued for a while, but your review is another I've read which says it's sorta mediocre. So I will probably pass. Awesome mini-reviews!

The Boy Next Door sounds like a fun, quick read. Sorry you didn't like XVI as much as I did. I read it and liked it quite a bit more.

I've heard very similar things from other bloggers about XVI. Shame, it sounded like an interesting and very challenging premise. Shame it wasn't pulled off.

I love your mini reviews Nic! So helpful. I've been looking for another Caletti read, I know she has many to chose from. XVI has a great cover, so I wish the story would have been a bit more exciting.

I've heard a lot about XVI. People seem to either love it or hate it. I'm still not sure if I want to read it or not.
The Boy Next Door seems like a great book. I need to make a "fun books" shelf. Easy pick me ups after a depressing book haha.

I really need to write some mini reviews, I have some books I never reviewed on the blog and didn't actually write a review, but would love to mention! Great mini reviews! I might have to pick up Honey, Baby, Sweetheart!
